I could talk about engineering specs all day. But the stories are what really matter. In military barrier airport security, every installation has a story of protection behind it.
I remember a facility near a busy highway. They had constant issues with people throwing rocks at planes and trying to climb the fence. It was terrifying. We installed a combination of anti-climb mesh and a deep foundation barrier. The next month, a group of teenagers tried to breach the perimeter. They spent twenty minutes trying to get over the new fence, got exhausted, and gave up. The sensors tracked them the whole time, and police met them at the gate. No breach. No danger.
Another time, a delivery driver lost his brakes on a steep approach road. His truck was heading straight for the terminal. He hit our crash-rated bollards at forty miles per hour. The bollards did exactly what they were designed to do. They absorbed the energy and stopped the truck. The driver was shaken but alive. The terminal was untouched.
Those moments are why I do this. I don't get to celebrate the attacks that didn't happen. There are no news reports for a stopped truck or a frustrated trespasser. But I know. My team knows.
